Nguyen Do Tue Minh, born in 1999, is a student from class K56 Advanced Program at the Foreign Trade University. She is well-known not only for her beautiful and charming look, but also for the spectacular academic results with a GPA of 3.89/4.00.

“Is there anyone who has influence on you so that you can achieve success as of today?”

My family has always been very inspiring and supportive to me. I feel lucky to have amazing and loving parents who support everything I do. They do not prevent me from doing extra-curricular activities even though I am a girl (a stereotype). Instead, they just remind me to be careful.

I was taught to be independent when I was just a little girl. Therefore, I put my heart into everything I do, from studying at school to doing my part-time jobs to pay for my own needs. I also help my parents with the household chores when I’m at home.

My parents are very open-minded. They let me try hard for what I want instead of paving the way in advance. However, they always stand by me through my ups and downs.

I think that my parents’ teaching methods and my hard work are what have made me who I am today.

You are known for taking part in many extra-curricular activities. Do you have something more to share about that?

To be honest, in my high school years, I did not participate in a lot of extra-curricular activities – I only joined 1 social club. I spent my time studying and hanging out with my close friends, mainly because I was too passive and shy. Therefore, except for the good grades I got and the knowledge I earned, I did not consider myself outstanding among other students at all.

This is the reason why I chose to study at FTU, as everybody says that FTU provides an active environment with more than 40 different clubs. Fortunately, I got admitted to the Advanced Program of the School of Economics & International Business at Foreign Trade University thanks to my pretty high result at the Entrance Exam – 27.5/30.

According to you, what to do to break their own limits and adapt to the university’s lifestyle?

As I said before, I was so shy and passive during my high school years that I could not engage in many social activities. In my opinion, to overcome shyness, you must dare to take chances and step out of your comfort zone.

There has never been a lack of opportunities at FTU. If you do not want to sign up for any club, you can still work for a part time job, participate in organizations outside campus, etc. to improve your knowledge and skills.

When I first enter te university, I was stunned by my friends’ impressive “profile”. Among 40 different clubs, I chose FTU Students’ Association. And I must admit that it was one of the best choices I made in my entire university life!

During my time at the Students’ Association, I had the chance to organize many events and projects. I also met a lot of talented seniors and friends whom I have been keeping in touch with. Whenever I have an interview, I always bring up the amazing hands-on experiences I had there and it was highly appreciated.

My advice for the freshmen is: If you ever feel lonely and yearn for changes, you should find for yourself a club or a team to join. Not only will you get to know more people, but you also have the chance to organize different projects in different positions.

Besides my social activities at school, I took a lot of different jobs because I think that part time jobs will provide us with many useful skills that the university can’t. Working with many students from different generations, I noticed that students who work early tend to be more confident and mature. However, if I had to choose between part time jobs and extracurricular activities, I would still prefer the latter. There is something so special and “studently” in these activities that the professional environment cannot provide. You can work for your whole life ahead, but uni-life only lasts for a few years – so you must “utilize” it as much as you can!
